Biography

Dr. Chris Griggs is a Senior Research Physical Scientist at the U.S. Army Engineer Research Development Center. His research group focuses on the development of earth abundant materials and carbons coupled with nanoscale-functionality to address sustainability, pollution prevention, water security, emerging contaminants, and other complex challenges facing our nations natural and built environment. Dr. Griggs received his doctoral degree in Analytical Chemistry from the University of Alabama and has >50 publications and holds 12 patents. Before joining ERDC, Chris worked in the private sector with engineering and consulting firms such as Applied Research Associates, and CH2M Hill. Chris is an expert in the development of composites from renewable polymers such as chitin, and chitosan, coupled with advanced carbons such as graphene for novel separations and chemical transformations. In addition to his role at ERDC, current appointments include adjunct faculty at Vanderbilt University, and Virginia Tech.
