Biography

Dr. Chen is a Research Assistant Professor in the Department of Civil & Environmental Engineering at the University of Tennessee Knoxville. Dr. Chen is an environmental microbiologist, and his research explores the ecophysiology of anaerobic microorganisms involved in the degradation of chlorinated solvents and petroleum hydrocarbons. Dr. Chen identified novel microorganisms and pathways for bacterial metabolism of environmental contaminants under anoxic conditions. Dr. Chen obtained his PhD degree from Max Planck Institute for Marine Microbiology in Bremen, Germany.
