Biography

Matthew Sima is a Ph.D. candidate in the Civil and Environmental Engineering Department at Princeton University. He studies the bioremediation of fluorinated compounds specifically PFAS via the bacterium Acidimicrobium sp. Strain A6. He has done kinetic modeling of the defluorination process coupled with the Feammox reaction and is working on application of his bioremediation technology to remediate PFAS contaminated field sites. Matthew is also a fellow in the Princeton School of Public and International Affairs where he works on understanding the regulatory framework necessary for addressing PFAS in soils and agriculture. He looks forward to learning more about dehalogenation mechanisms from everybody!
