Biography

Dr. Mengyan “Ian” Li is a Professor in the Department of Chemistry and Environmental Science at the New Jersey Institute of Technology (NJIT), Newark, NJ. His research in environmental microbiology and biotechnology centers on the molecular mechanisms driving the biodegradation and biotransformation of emerging contaminants, including PFAS, 1,4-dioxane, antibiotics, and microplastics. His group also develops innovative water remediation technologies for field applications and pursues interdisciplinary strategies to mitigate antibiotic resistance and promote sustainable urban and agricultural practices. Dr. Li’s work has been recognized with distinguished honors, including the NSF CAREER Award, ISPTS Young Scientist Award, AAEES University Research Honor Award, and NJIT JHCSLA Distinguished Research Award.
