Biography

Alba Medina is currently a PhD student in Civil, Environmental and Sustainable Engineering studying cultures capable of reducing perchlorate at high concentrations in Martian regolith simulant as a bioweathering approach to convert inorganic, sterile and toxic Martian regolith into fertile soil with SOM and appropriate physical and chemical properties for further plant cultivation. Prior to joining Arizona State University, Alba earned her bachelor’s degrees in Biological Sciences and Chemistry from Lindenwood University in Missouri with a special interest in cellular and molecular biology and biochemistry.
