Biography

Kevin R. Sowers is currently the Associate Director the Institute of Marine and Environmental Technology and Professor at the University of Maryland Baltimore County. He obtained a Ph.D. in Anaerobic Microbiology from Virginia Tech. He specializes in basic and applied research on halorespiration and bioremediation of organohalides and the development of anaerobic consortia of bacteria for conversion of organic wastes to biogas. His research has generated over 85 peer-reviewed journal articles, 20 book chapters, and several patents. Dr. Sowers is the cofounder of two start-up companies, RemBac Environmental and Silfra Biosystems, which specialize in bioremediation technologies.
