Biography

Dr. Peeyush Kumar is a systems scholar specializing in the intersection of cultures, technology, and economy. He serves as a Senior Research Lead at Microsoft Research with the Research for Industry Lab, where his work is categorized on 3 tracks a) Building Artificial Intelligence supported social technologies for equitable and resilient communities, b) Using large AI models to bridge people, process and technology in the context of Food and Energy systems, and c) Liberation practices and regenerative economy Dr. Kumar holds a Ph.D. from the University of Washington Seattle where his thesis focused on data driven decision making for systems and processes. Before joining Microsoft Research as a senior scientist, he co-founded Cohort Intelligence, a healthcare technology company that later became Engooden Health, with a market cap of 80m$. The company provides chronic care management, rooted in Peeyush's research on clinical language processing. Dr. Kumar also serves as an occasional instructor at the University of Washington Seattle, board member in grassroot organizations, reviewer for grants and peer publications, and active community organizer in Seattle focused on regenerative principles. Dr. Kumar has published 30+ journal articles & 15+ patents. Currently, Peeyush resides in Seattle, Washington, originally the home of the Duwamish people and other indigenous communities. He wears multiple hats as a scientist, entrepreneur, community builder, and researcher. His work aims to create social technologies that contribute to a world of harmony, richness, and equity.
