Ir. Dr. Saravanan Mariappan boasts an extensive career spanning over 28 years in engineering consulting, complemented by a remarkable 11-year tenure in research. Currently serving as the Managing Director of Nexus EC Sdn Bhd, a distinguished engineering consulting firm based in Malaysia, Dr. Saravanan has emerged as a leader in his field. In 1995, he earned his Bachelor of Civil Engineering, followed by a Master's in Geotechnical Engineering in 2002, both from the esteemed University of Malaya. Driven by a passion for environmental studies, he pursued and successfully attained his doctorate from Kyoto University in 2007. Building on this foundation, he embarked on a postdoctoral fellowship at the University of Malaya in 2008. Adding legal acumen to his repertoire, Dr. Saravanan completed his LLB at the University of London in 2023, showcasing his commitment to interdisciplinary expertise. Throughout his illustrious career, he has authored more than 62 research papers, including 5 journal papers, and penned a book delving into the Characteristics of Unsaturated Residual Soil. Dr. Saravanan's contributions extend beyond academia, with active participation in over 25 national and international conferences. Notably, his innovative spirit is reflected in the acquisition of five patents in flood mitigation technology and reinforced earth retaining structures. His groundbreaking work has garnered recognition, earning him the Silver Award at the Geneva Special Edition in March 2022, as well as Silver Awards at the Malaysia Technology Expo 2022. Additionally, Dr. Saravanan received the Innovator Award at the Southeast Asia Water Integrated Water Resources Management GWP-SEA Conference 2023. This prestigious accolade recognizes his pioneering efforts in advancing 3rd Generation Express Flood Mitigation through Elevated Large-Scale Aqueducts and Aqua Arteries. Dr. Saravanan's commitment to pushing the boundaries of innovation underscores his impact on engineering and environmental studies, marking him as a distinguished figure in his field.
