Biography

1) Ariel (ah-ree-ehl) is a second year Ph.D. candidate at the University of Toronto, in the department of Chemical Engineering and Applied Chemistry, supervised by Drs. Elizabeth Edwards and Laura Hug. Her research aims to identify novel enzymes with capacity to modify carbon-carbon backbone plastics, such as polystyrene, polyethylene, and polyvinyl chloride and assess their suitability for industrial-scale recycling. 2) Ariel received her baccalaureate of Science from the University of Waterloo in Honours Biology (Co-Op) with a Bioinformatics Option in 2023, she is an avid traveller, photographer, and cat lover.
