Evolving Vapor Intrusion Risk Issues Tied to EPA RCRA 2030
Background/Objectives
US EPA identified vapor intrusion as one of the targeted areas for the RCRA 2030 goals, specifically "eliminate or control adverse impacts beyond facility boundaries at RCRA Corrective Action facilities". This goal seemed odd in light of the decades or evaluation of vapor intrusion which via a conceptual site model should include on- or off-site evaluation. This presentation will explore the components of vapor intrusion that could be of focus, and tie to historical vapor intrusion guidance, regulation and applications.
Approach/Activities
Literature review was conducted on the timeline of vapor intrusion guidance, regulation and approaches. The presentation will tie this history to current "new" identification by EPA of vapor intrusion focus with potential environmental justice link.
Results/Lessons Learned
The presentation will wrap up the assessment of various vapor intrusion guidances, regulations and approaches in a graphical manner with key findings of RCRA assessment evaluation highlighted.
