Biography

Christopher T. Gallo A Project Manager in the Environmental, Interagency, and International Services Branch within the Programs and Project Management Division; Chris has been a federal employee since 2008 first working at the Environmental Protection Agency (EPA) in various roles. Started as an Environmental Scientist in EPA’s Environmental Response Team (ERT) assisting all of EPA’s 10 Regions in everything from Emergency Response to Long-Term environmental clean-ups. Chris’ main responsibility as part of ERT was air monitoring and air sampling for some of EPA’s toughest sites and responses. To that end he responded to the BP Oil Spill, Kilauea Volcano Eruption and Hurricane Responses such as Sandy, Irma, and Maria performing various air monitoring tasks at each. Chris is also a certified Incident Command Structure (ICS) Safety Officer and was the Command Safety Officer during the Hurricane Maria Response as well as the California Wildfire Response. He served as Co-Chair of the EPA Emergency Response Worker Health and Safety Workgroup as well as other workgroups in Chem/Bioweapons responses/clean-ups and air monitoring/sampling. Chris was often tasked by EPA’s Regions to set-up pre-deployed air monitoring systems to events such as the Super Bowls and the Republican/Democratic National Conventions for chem/bio/rad intentional or unintentional releases. He was heavily involved in training fellow EPA colleagues, teaching health and safety and air monitoring courses along with ICS courses. The Centers for Disease Control (CDC) even asked Chris to teach HAZWOPER to the Ethiopian Public Health Service in Addis Ababa, Ethiopia at one of CDC’s Partner Laboratories. Chris transferred to EPA’s Region 2 in 2019 serving first as a Section Chief in Contracts Management before serving as a Remedial Project Manager (RPM) for Federal Facilities. As an RPM, Chris worked on Picatinny Arsenal in New Jersey and Seneca Army Depot in New York while also assisting other RPMs on their DOD/private Superfund sites. Chris was also on the Training Subcommittee for all EPA RPMs nationwide. As a USACE Project Manager, Chris works on mitigating environmental contamination at active DOD facilities, Formerly Used Defense Sites, and Base Re-alignment and Closure Sites, providing overall direction to environmental cleanups at these sites. In addition to his roles as a Project Manager, Chris serves as part of the USACE Environmental Special Team (EnvST), USACE Critical Incident Stress Management (CISM) Team as a Peer Supporter and is on the NY District Temporary Housing/Critical Public Facilities Planning and Response Team (PRT). Prior to Federal Service, Chris worked for the New York City Department of Environmental Protection as a Hazmat/WMD/Instrument Specialist in their Emergency Response Division. Chris received his bachelor’s degree in chemistry with a concentration in biochemistry from Villanova University and a master’s in forensic science from the John Jay School of Criminal Justice. When Chris is not working, he enjoys playing hockey, skiing, golfing, and seeing friends and family. He and his wife Alyssa have two boys Cameron (7) and Jeremy (4) and reside in Metuchen, NJ.
