Biography

Jishnu Adhikari, Ph.D., Environmental Scientist III Dr. Adhikari is an Environmental Scientist with 13 years of research and industry experience in environmental microbiology, bioremediation, geochemistry, biochemistry, molecular biology, and bench-scale treatability studies. During his Ph.D. research, Dr. Adhikari identified the presence of antimony as a co-contaminant in the aquifers of the Bengal Delta Plain, India. This research directly influences the lives of nearly 100 million people who are affected by contaminated drinking water in this part of the world. He has also worked extensively on antimony and arsenic cycling in deltaic and sandstone aquifers, bioremediation, and chemical remediation of VOCs in sandstone aquifers. He has worked on DOE EPSCOR and FICUS grants to study shale fracture well clogging by microorganisms and their cellular and molecular changes in the presence of high salinity, high pressure, and low carbon. In recent years, he has worked using CSIA to identify source and transport of contaminants in the groundwater. He has also worked on signature detection and identification of PFAS transport, precursor degradation in aquifers, and landfill leachate. He has also been involved in testing the PFAS filtration system of groundwater water and developing PFAS solidification in contaminated aquifers. He is also involved in the development and application of three PFAS thermal destruction technologies and one non-thermal destruction technology. Dr. Adhikari is also experienced in an array of environmental measurement techniques, including LC-MS-MS, GC-MS, HPLC-ICP-MS, TOC, SEM, TEM, ICP-OES, XRD, XRF, Flame AA Spectrometer, Particle Size Analyzer, UV/Visible and nanodrop Spectrophotometer, Bioanalyzer, Fermenter, thermocycler (PCR, qPCR, ddPCR), DNA sequencer, etc.
